Quick answer
In the app: open Marketplace and tap the location pin at the right of the row of tabs (Sell, Explore, Local…). Or tap ⋯ at the top right > More options > Location. On a computer: from your Feed, click Marketplace, then click your location on the right-hand side. Type your city, neighborhood, postcode or zip code, or pick your location on the map. When you create a listing, you can also choose a location for that listing. If it keeps changing back, check your phone’s location permission for Facebook and turn off any VPN.
Does this match what you see?
- Marketplace shows items from another city or country.
- Items are far away, even though you’re in a big city.
- Your listing shows a location where you don’t live or sell.
- The location goes back to the wrong place after you change it.
- Marketplace changed location after you used a VPN or traveled.

Meta gives the same steps for the iPhone, iPad and Android apps, and separate steps for a computer.
Why this happens: the possible causes
Marketplace uses the location it has for you. These are the usual reasons it’s wrong.
| What you see | Likely cause | Do this first |
|---|---|---|
| Items from another city or area | Your Marketplace location is out of date | Fix 1 |
| Your listing in the wrong place | The listing’s own location was set wrongly | Fix 2 |
| Location changes back on its own | Your phone’s location access, or a VPN | Fix 3 |
| Items from another country | A VPN or proxy | Fix 4 |
- Your Marketplace location is out of dateCheck this first
You moved, traveled, or set the location long ago. Marketplace keeps using it until you change it.
- The listing has its own locationPossible
Meta says you can choose a location for each listing when you set it up, so a listing can show a different place from your Marketplace location.
- Your phone isn’t sharing an accurate locationPossible
Meta says that when Location Services is off, it may still estimate your location from things like check-ins, events and your internet connection (Wi-Fi or IP address). An estimate can be less accurate than your phone’s GPS.
- A VPN or proxyPossible
Meta says your IP address is one of the things it uses to understand where you are, so a VPN that routes your connection through another city or country can make Facebook place you there.
Try these 60-second checks first
- Open Marketplace and look at the location it shows.
- Turn off any VPN.
- Check that Facebook is allowed to use your location in your phone’s settings.
How to fix it, step by step
Work through these in order. They start with the quickest, safest checks and only move to steps that sign you out or remove data later.
Fix 1: Change your Marketplace location (Meta’s steps)
This is the main fix. Meta lets you type a place or pick it on a map.
iPhone & iPad
- Open Marketplace (in the ☰ Menu, or the tab bar if you’ve pinned it).
- Tap ⋯ at the top right of Marketplace, then More options.
- Under Account, tap Location.
- Search by city, neighborhood or ZIP code, or move the map, then tap Apply. (The location pin at the right of the Sell / Explore / Local / Categories row opens a quicker Choose a location panel.)
Android
- Open Marketplace (in the ☰ Menu, or the tab bar if you’ve pinned it).
- Tap the location pin at the right end of the row with Sell, Explore, Local and More. (Some versions show a person icon at the top right instead; tap it, then Location.)
- In Choose a location, tap Edit or the search icon to type your city, neighborhood, postcode or zip code, or tap Locate me to use your phone’s location. You may also see places Suggested for you.
Computer (browser)
- From your Feed, click Marketplace.
- Click your location on the right-hand side.
- Type your city, neighborhood, postcode or zip code, or select your location on the map.

Facebook’s in-app help describes a small person (profile) icon at the top right. On our test phones in October 2026 we found two routes instead: ⋯ > More options > Location (iPhone), and the location pin beside the tabs, which opens Choose a location with a map, Locate me and Edit (iPhone and Android).

Fix 2: Set the right location on a listing
Meta says you can choose a location for each listing when you set it up. That’s what buyers see.
- When you create a listing, look for the location option and choose where you’ll meet buyers or ship from.
- For a listing that’s already up, find it in Your listings and look for an edit option. If there isn’t one for location, remove the listing and list it again with the right location.
- Use a general area such as your neighborhood, not your exact home address.
Meta’s page covers choosing a location when you set up a listing. Editing the location of an existing listing may not be possible on every version.
Did it work? Your listing shows the area you chose.
Did Fix 2 solve it?
Great, you fixed it with Fix 2. Tell us it worked, or bookmark this page in case it happens again.
Fix 3: Location keeps changing back? Check your phone’s location access
Meta says Location Services helps Facebook with location features like finding places nearby. With it off, Facebook may estimate your location from check-ins, events and your internet connection instead, which can be less accurate.
iPhone & iPad
- Open Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services, and make sure it’s on.
- Scroll to Facebook and choose While Using the App.
- Turn on Precise Location if you want a more exact match. With it off, Apple says the app gets only your approximate location.
Android
- Open Settings > Location > App location permissions > Facebook.
- Choose Allow only while using the app.
- Turn on Use precise location if you want a more exact match.
You don’t have to share your location. You can type a place instead in Fix 1.
Did it work? Set the Marketplace location again and check whether it stays where you put it.
Did Fix 3 solve it?
Great, you fixed it with Fix 3. Tell us it worked, or bookmark this page in case it happens again.
Fix 4: Turn off your VPN or proxy
Meta says it uses connection information like your IP address to understand where you are, so a VPN can make Facebook think you’re in another city or country.
- Turn off your VPN or proxy.
- Close and reopen Facebook.
- Set your Marketplace location again (Fix 1).
Did it work? Marketplace shows items from your own area.
Did Fix 4 solve it?
Great, you fixed it with Fix 4. Tell us it worked, or bookmark this page in case it happens again.
Keep your location safe
- Use your neighborhood or a nearby landmark, not your exact home address.
- Meet buyers and sellers in busy public places. See Marketplace scams.
- If a buyer insists on your home address before agreeing anything, be careful.
How to know it worked
- Marketplace shows items around the location you chose.
- Your listings show the right area.
- The location stays put after you close and reopen Facebook.
Still not working? Your next steps
- If Marketplace is missing or says it isn’t available to you, see Marketplace not showing.
- If your listing isn’t visible to buyers at all, see listing not showing.
- Report the problem: in the app, ☰ Menu > Help and support > Report a problem > Continue to report a problem, then choose Marketplace on Select product. On a computer: profile picture > Help and support > Report a problem.

Frequently asked questions
How do I change my location on Facebook Marketplace?
In the app, open Marketplace and tap the location pin at the right of the row of tabs, or tap ⋯ at the top right, then More options, then Location. On a computer, click Marketplace from your Feed, then click your location on the right. Type a city, neighborhood, postcode or zip code, or pick a spot on the map.
Why is Marketplace showing items from another city?
Your Marketplace location is probably out of date, or a VPN is making you appear elsewhere. Change the location and turn off the VPN.
Can I change the location of a listing?
Meta says you can choose a location for each listing when you set it up. For an existing listing, look for an edit option, or list it again with the right location.
Do I have to share my exact location with Marketplace?
No. You can type a city, neighborhood, postcode or zip code instead. On your phone, you can also turn off precise location so Facebook gets only an approximate one.
