Quick answer
Won’t upload: use a PNG or JPG under 8MB, at least 400 × 400 pixels; try another browser, then compress the photo. Removed: upload a photo that shows you (not a logo, pet, landscape, emoji, flag, text, childhood photo or someone else). Blurry cover image: use a larger image, ideally 1584 × 396 pixels.

How to fix it, step by step
Work through these in order. They start with the quickest, safest checks and only move to steps that sign you out or remove data later.
Fix 1: Fix a photo that won’t upload
LinkedIn has set file rules for profile and cover photos.
- Make sure the file is PNG or JPG. LinkedIn doesn’t support GIFs.
- Make sure it’s no more than 8MB.
- Profile photo: between 400 × 400 and 7680 × 4320 pixels. LinkedIn recommends one that won’t need much cropping.
- Cover image: LinkedIn recommends 1584 × 396 pixels.
- Still failing? Try a different browser, then compress the photo on your device and upload again.
Also check the photo follows LinkedIn’s photo guidelines.
Did it work? The photo appears on your profile.

Fix 2: Add, change or delete your profile photo
You manage your profile photo from the introduction section of your profile.
iPhone & iPad
- Add: tap your profile photo > your Profile card, then the Camera icon at the upper left (it’s not there if you already have a photo). Tap Photo to take one or pick from your library.
- Crop, add filters, adjust, reposition or rotate, choose who can see it, then tap Save.
- Change, edit or delete: on your profile, tap your profile photo > View or edit profile photo. Tap Edit, Add photo (to replace it), Add Frames or the Delete icon, then Save.
Android
- Add: tap your profile photo > your Profile card, then the Camera icon at the upper left (it’s not there if you already have a photo). Tap Photo to take one or pick from your library.
- Crop, add filters, adjust, reposition or rotate, choose who can see it, then tap Save.

- Change, edit or delete: click Me > View profile, then click your profile photo. Choose Edit, Add photo (to replace it), Frames or Delete, then Save photo.
Mobile browser: tap the Profile icon > Add Photo > Add profile photo to add one. To change or delete, tap your photo twice > Edit > CHANGE PHOTO, or the More icon > Delete, then SAVE. LinkedIn says it keeps your original photo until you upload a new one, so you can re-edit it. But once you delete a photo or replace it, LinkedIn can’t restore the old one, so keep your own copy.
Did it work? Your new photo shows on your profile.

Why LinkedIn removed your photo
LinkedIn says your profile photo must reflect your likeness. An illustration, caricature or other artistic version of you is fine. It may remove photos that break its User Agreement (external site, opens in a new tab) or Professional Community Policies (external site, opens in a new tab), including images that are only:
- Company logos
- Emojis
- Landscapes
- Animals
- Words or phrases
- Flags
- Childhood or baby photos
- Someone else’s likeness, including stock images, celebrities and fictional characters
Cover images can be removed under the same rules. LinkedIn says you can simply upload a different photo. To ask why a photo was removed, use LinkedIn’s contact form (external site, opens in a new tab).
Cover image blurry or pixelated
- LinkedIn says to choose an image with a larger file size, ideally 1584 × 396 pixels, JPG or PNG under 8MB.
- It says photos look better than images with logos.
- Still blurry? LinkedIn suggests running it through an image compression tool before uploading (it doesn’t support third-party tools).
- LinkedIn says how it looks can change with your browser window size and screen resolution.
Who can see your profile photo
LinkedIn says your photo is visible to Anyone by default. On a computer, click Me > View Profile > your profile photo, then the Visibility icon, and choose:
- 1st-degree connections only
- Your network
- All LinkedIn members
- Anyone
Click Save. LinkedIn says this also updates your public profile (what people see in Google and other search engines when not signed in).
Hide your photo from search engines only
Click Me > View Profile > Edit public profile & URL, then under Edit Visibility > Profile Photo, choose who can see it. LinkedIn says you must do this on the desktop site; it can’t be changed in the app. If your public profile is turned off, your photo can’t be set to Public.
Cover image changed to a live video
LinkedIn says when you start a LinkedIn Live broadcast, your cover image automatically shows the live stream, then goes back afterward. There’s no option to turn this off.
How to know it worked
- Your profile and cover photos show correctly.
Still not working? Your next steps
