Facebook Marketplace Jobs: Why You Can’t See It, Jobs Profile Privacy, Rules

Facebook lets people browse and create jobs on Marketplace, and create them on Pages and in groups, and keep a Jobs Profile that employers can see. If you can’t find Jobs at all, a likely reason is simple: Meta says it’s a new feature being tested for select people in select US cities. Here’s who can use it, who can see your Jobs Profile, the rules for job posts, and what to do about a suspicious employer.

Quick answer

Meta says Jobs is being tested for select people in select cities in the US, and is meant for people 18 or older, so it may not be available where you are. If you have it: employers you message from a job listing can see your Jobs Profile, and turning on discoverability means other employers may be able to find you. Once you’ve saved your Jobs Profile, any employer you message from a listing can see it, even with discoverability off. Your Jobs Profile and Facebook profile aren’t linked. To report or block an employer, open your Messenger conversation with them and choose the report or block option, or use More options on their profile (if you can open it).

Does this match what you see?

  • You can’t find Jobs in Marketplace.
  • You’re not sure who can see your Jobs Profile.
  • Applying sent you to a different website.
  • A job you posted was removed.
  • An employer messaging you seems suspicious.

How to fix it, step by step

Work through these in order. They start with the quickest, safest checks and only move to steps that sign you out or remove data later.

Fix 1: Can’t find Jobs? Check whether it’s available to you

Safe & reversible2 miniPhone & iPadAndroidComputer (browser)

Meta says Jobs may not be available in your location: it’s a new feature currently being tested for select people in select cities in the US, and is meant for people 18 or older.

  1. If you’re outside the US, Jobs may not be available to you: Meta describes it as being tested for select people in select cities in the US.
  2. Our advice: make sure the birthday on your profile is correct. Meta says jobs are meant for people aged 18 or older.
  3. If Marketplace itself is missing, see Facebook Marketplace not showing.

Meta says jobs can be found or created on Marketplace, and can also be created on your Page or in a group. Our advice: don’t use a VPN or a second account to get around location limits.

Did it work? You know whether Jobs is available to you.

Fix 2: Find and apply for jobs on Facebook

Safe & reversible5 miniPhone & iPadAndroid

Meta says you can find jobs in the Jobs tab on Marketplace, in local and career-focused groups, on local businesses’ Pages, and through Facebook Search (type what you’re looking for and browse jobs nearby).

  1. Tap Menu or your profile photo (Meta says bottom right), then Marketplace (under See more if needed).
  2. At the top, tap For you to see recommended jobs in your feed, or Jobs to see all jobs listed in your area, as long as jobs are available in your city.
  3. Select a job to see the details.
  4. To apply, tap Write something and message the employer in Messenger.

Meta says not to share personal or sensitive information in Messenger chat: submit application details directly to the job owner, for example through their website. Once you message an employer, they can see your Jobs Profile. Meta gives these steps for the iPhone and Android apps.

Did it work? You’ve found a job and messaged the employer.

Fix 3: Post a job: from Marketplace, your Page, your Feed or a group

Safe & reversible5 miniPhone & iPadAndroid

Meta says you can create jobs from your Page, on Marketplace, in a group, or from a Feed or profile post, either for yourself (Meta’s example: a landscaper for your home) or for your business (a barista for a coffee shop you manage).

  1. Marketplace: tap Menu (top left) > Marketplace (under See more if needed). Tap Sell > Create listing > Job, or tap Jobs at the top > Create job. Enter the job details, then tap Publish.
  2. Your Page: tap Menu > your profile photo or name to go to your Page. Below Your posts, tap What’s on your mind? > Create job, enter the details and tap Continue, add a description (tap Change Image to add a photo), then tap Post.
  3. Your Feed: tap What’s on your mind?, write a description, tap Tag job > Create job, enter the details and tap Continue, then Post.
  4. A group: tap Menu > Groups (under See more if needed), choose the group, tap Write something… > Create job, enter the details and tap Continue, add a description, then Post.
  5. Posting for your business from your personal profile? Meta says to tap your business name, then Switch now, then Create job.

Meta says a job attached to a Feed or group post is public, even though the post keeps the audience you chose, and that a job created from your Page shows on your Page timeline and on Marketplace. To edit, delete or mark it as filled later, see the next fix. Job creators must follow the law and must not discriminate: see Meta’s discrimination policies for jobs (external site, opens in a new tab) and the rules for job posts. Meta gives these steps for the iPhone and Android apps.

Did it work? Your job is posted, and you can find it on Marketplace (or your Page timeline) to manage it.

Fix 4: Edit, delete or mark a job as filled

Read first: can remove data3 miniPhone & iPadAndroid

Meta says that if you create a job on Facebook, you can edit it, delete it or mark it as filled at any time.

  1. Marketplace: tap Menu (top left) > Marketplace > Sell > Your jobs, then tap the menu next to the job. You can Mark as filled, Edit, Delete job or Share job.
  2. Your Page: find the job post and tap Manage job. Or, below your profile description, tap Jobs > Manage jobs and select the job. Or, below Your posts, tap Manage posts, select the post, then tap Manage job.
  3. Your personal profile: tap Menu > your profile at the top, find the job post, then tap Manage job.
  4. A group: tap Menu > Groups (under See more if needed), select the group, tap the menu at the top right, then Manage your content > Published, select the job post and tap See listing.
  5. Your dashboard: in the Home section, tap Post management, select the post, then tap Manage job. Meta says the professional dashboard is now called Creator Dashboard or Business Dashboard.
  6. Then choose Mark as filled, Edit or Delete job.

Meta gives these steps for the iPhone and Android apps.

Did it work? The job shows as filled, shows your changes, or is gone.

Fix 5: Control who can see your Jobs Profile

Safe & reversible3 miniPhone & iPadAndroidComputer (browser)

Meta says employers you message from a job listing can see your Jobs Profile, and that turning on discoverability means employers you haven’t messaged may be able to find you. Meta says employers include businesses and people who list jobs.

  1. Open your Jobs Profile and edit it. Meta says this is where you may see the discoverability setting.
  2. Find Let employers discover you and reach out about job opportunities on Facebook.
  3. On: more people and businesses may be able to discover your Jobs Profile and message you about jobs.
  4. Off: your Jobs Profile isn’t discoverable. An employer can still see it after you message them from a job listing.
  5. Our advice: only add what you’re comfortable sharing. Meta says Facebook only shows information you choose to add to your Jobs Profile.

Meta says that after you select Save on your Jobs Profile, any employer you message can see it, even if discoverability is off. See what employers may see.

Did it work? The discoverability setting shows your choice.

Fix 6: Sent to another website to apply? It may be a partner listing

Read first: can remove data2 miniPhone & iPadAndroidComputer (browser)

Meta says some jobs on Marketplace may be listed by a third-party partner. If you apply to a job shared by a partner, you’re redirected to the partner’s website, and anything you enter there is shared with the partner and the employer.

  1. Our advice: check the website address before you type anything, and only enter what the application needs.
  2. Our advice: no job application needs your Facebook password or a code sent to your phone.
  3. Our advice: if the site asks for payment or bank details to apply, stop, and report the job, or report or block the employer if they contacted you.

Did it work? You applied on the partner site, or left a suspicious one without entering anything.

Fix 7: Job post removed? Check Meta’s rules for jobs

Safe & reversible5 miniPhone & iPadAndroidComputer (browser)

Meta has its own rules for jobs on Marketplace, and says jobs that break its Community Standards, Commerce Policies, Discrimination Policy, Meta Terms of Service or applicable laws may be removed.

  1. Check the job isn’t in a prohibited category: adult entertainment; in-person childcare (including nannies, babysitters, teachers and teacher assistants); modeling; personal training; physical therapy; personal wellness (including estheticians and masseuses, except barbers and hair and nail salons); or travel (including flight attendants, cabin crew, travel agents and tour guides).
  2. Make sure the post clearly and fully describes the job. Meta removes listings that aren’t related to job offers or hiring.
  3. No discrimination: Meta says jobs, and Messenger threads about them, must not wrongfully discriminate or suggest a preference for or against people because of personal characteristics such as race, ethnicity, color, national origin, citizenship, religion, age, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, family status, marital status, disability, or medical or genetic condition. They must also follow anti-discrimination and equal employment opportunity laws.
  4. Meta also removes jobs targeting minors, jobs detected as fraudulent (such as get-rich-quick, multi-level marketing or schemes that harvest personal information), and jobs that are misleading, violent, hateful or discriminatory.
  5. Our advice: if you think it was removed by mistake, check whether the removal message offers a way to ask for a review. See things you can’t sell on Marketplace for the wider Commerce Policies.

Did it work? Your job post follows Meta’s rules for jobs.

Fix 8: Find your messages with an employer

Safe & reversible1 miniPhone & iPadAndroid

Meta says that when you reach out to an employer through Messenger, you can check your messages about the job at any time.

  1. Tap Menu, then Marketplace.
  2. Select the chat with the employer, or the job name, that you want to review.

These steps are from Meta’s Messenger Help, which says this isn’t available on computers, but is available on iPhone and Android. Remember: an employer can see your Jobs Profile after you message them from a job listing. Other missing Marketplace chats: see Marketplace messages not showing.

Did it work? You can see your conversation with the employer.

Fix 9: Report a job, or report or block a suspicious employer

Safe & reversible2 miniPhone & iPadAndroidComputer (browser)

Meta says you can report a job that breaks its rules, and that if you feel uncomfortable, or think an employer is abusive or suspicious, you can report or block them.

  1. Report a job listing: tap Menu (top left) > Marketplace (under See more if needed), find the job, tap the menu icon at the top right of the post, tap Report, and follow the on-screen instructions. Meta says you can report a job that doesn’t follow its Community Standards or Discrimination Policy.
  2. From Messenger: open your conversation with them and choose the block or report option.
  3. From a profile: open the person’s profile, select More options, then Block or Report. Meta says you can usually open the profile if you created a job and the person messaged you about it in Messenger.

More on reporting: how to report a post, profile or message.

Did it work? You’ve reported or blocked them.

Meta’s tips to avoid job scams on Facebook

  • Too good to be true? Watch for employers who hire you without an interview, pay a salary before you’ve done any work, or promise high pay for little work (Meta’s example: $12 per envelope you stuff).
  • Research the employer. Be wary of listings with little information about the employer (no phone number, address or website), employers who offer interviews by text or messaging app instead of in person or by video, bad spelling and grammar, or vague descriptions needing little or no experience.
  • No upfront fees to apply. Meta says companies shouldn’t require any upfront payment to apply. Report listings asking for application, recruiter placement, interview reservation, training, resume-writing or background-check fees. Meta also says to watch out for employers who ask for money for business travel, starting materials or training and promise to pay you back.
  • Work-from-home shipping jobs: Meta warns about scams where you send and receive packages bought with a stolen identity or card, or containing counterfeit postal money orders, often titled “package processing assistant” or “merchandising manager”. See the U.S. Postal Inspection Service (external site, opens in a new tab).
  • Protect your privacy. Only enter sensitive details in a secure form (the address should start with https), and avoid giving personal or financial details in Messenger.
  • Don’t move money for an employer. Meta says employers should never ask you to transfer funds, accept money or cash checks for them, and that doing so could make you liable for fraud.
  • Meet somewhere safe. If you must meet at a private home or remote place, Meta suggests bringing a friend.

To report a job post, Meta says to use the option in the upper-right corner of the post. If you think you’ve been scammed, Meta says to contact your local law enforcement immediately.

What employers can see on your Jobs Profile

Meta says that when an employer can view your Jobs Profile, they may see the details you add, such as:

  • Looking for jobs in
  • About me
  • Jobs location
  • Languages spoken

Meta says an employer may also see basic account details, such as your name and profile photo, and that Facebook only shows information you choose to add to your Jobs Profile.

Meta says your Jobs Profile and your Facebook profile aren’t linked: an employer can’t open your Facebook profile from your Jobs Profile, or the other way around.
